How we work
We want the resources of philanthropists to do maximum good. Therefore, we look for opportunities with high expected value.
As philanthropists you may have limited time and expertise to review all opportunities, so we help you to develop a grantmaking strategy and manage your portfolio. We do this in the following ways:
Defining the cause areas (in relation to SDGs).
As a philanthropist you can select your own causes, influenced by personal reasons and preferences. However, if you wish to do maximum good with your money you may instead want to look at areas that have a high potential for creating impact, using the INT framework (Importance, Neglectedness and Tracktability).
Deciding on the way you give. What is your approach?
There are different routes and solutions to giving effectively to a cause area:
– Look for programmes and organisations on the list of “effective charities”
– Search for catalytic opportunities; strong organisations working with evidence based interventions
– Benchmark survey to review your current portfolio of grants
– Fund important research topics
– Support funds or organisations that strengthen philanthropy.
Do you want to focus on a single problem (hunger) with a simple solution (providing food) or do you aim at complex challenges (child labour) with more complex programmes (legislation)? We work with the Problem-Solution Framework as developed by Effective Giving.
Identifying funding gaps within organisations.
Once we have identified an organisation with evidence based interventions, we take a closer look on how your grant can create the highest expected value. What is the magnitude of the impact x probability of impact occurring? And what is the current need for funding or the amount the organisation can handle effectively?
Performance Management
Encouraging your commitment as a major donor by creating a single dashboard for outcome, impact, monitoring and evaluation.
We often see NGOs spending a lot of time on fundraising and adjusting their policy to accommodate different funder’s needs. In our approach we try to form a new alignment of funders, with focus on reaching the targets set and having a long term commitment. One shared dashboard for funders and NGOs will help develop transparent and efficient organisations.
